Why study Spanish?
Spanish is the mother tongue of more than 400 million people around the world and has official language status in 20 different countries. Analysts are estimating that the Latino population of the USA will reach close to 130 million by the year 2060, making the USA the largest Spanish speaking country in the world.
In today’s global marketplace, knowledge of a second language can be an extremely valuable asset to employees and employers alike. Modern businesses are always keen to have staff members who can help them with international trade and the Spanish language is especially valuable in the current climate.
At LMI we study the AQA syllabus of GCSE Spanish as a Foreign Language over two years with three broad themes:
1. Identity and Culture
2. Local, national, international and global areas of interest
3. Current and future study of employment
If a student has good grades at GCSE Spanish or a good command of the language, they can study for the AQA A Level Spanish as a Foreign Language over 2 years. The subject content covers:
1. Social issues and trends
2. Political and artistic culture
3. Grammar
4. Literary texts and films
Both courses focus on the four core skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
Should a student join LMI with knowledge of another language that they wish to pursue, there is the option to study with our sister tutor company at a supplement.
