BRITISH
EDUCATION
If you are looking for a school where you can do your British Baccalaureate in Madrid you are in luck. At LMI College you will have a methodology focused on your hobbies and goals, we will create a tailor-made programme so that your children can access the university of their dreams.
After completing the Sixth Form and obtaining their A-Level certificate, LMI College students can apply to universities of their choice, both in Europe and around the world. They are supported by our University Counselling department, which not only provides weekly one-to-one support throughout the Sixth Form – where different university degrees and institutions are assessed based on each student’s personal interests – but also assists with application, pre-enrolment and documentation throughout the application process to Higher Education institutions.
The UK education system is characterised by its structured and specialised approach at the higher stages. Years 10 to 13 are crucial for specialisation and preparation for higher education or entry to the world of university and work.
After completing their GCSEs, many students choose to continue their secondary education in order to enter university at a later date. This last stage of non-compulsory secondary education (equivalent to bachillerato in the Spanish system) covers Years 12 and Year 13 and usually corresponds to ages between 16 and 18.
At these levels, students generally choose between three and four subjects in which they specialise and study in depth. These are all specific subjects of their choice which qualify them for entry to Spanish, British, American, European and international universities.
During these two years, students prepare for their General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examinations. At 14 or 15, students take their GCSEs. In these years, they can choose from a wide range of compulsory and specialist optional subjects according to their interests and career goals.
In order to obtain not only their British secondary school leaving certificate, but also the official Spanish secondary school leaving certificate, LMI College students take not only their compulsory and optional subjects in English, but also the core subjects corresponding to the 3rd and 4th year of ESO (Spanish Compulsory Secondary Education). In this way, at the end of Year 11, our pupils obtain both the GCSE – British Certificate of Secondary Education and their ESO – Spanish Certificate of Compulsory Secondary Education.
At the age of 11, students move on to secondary education. They are exposed to a broad curriculum, which includes a variety of subjects such as mathematics, English, science, history and geography.
Children begin formal education in primary school at the age of five. It focuses on the acquisition of basic skills in subjects such as mathematics, English language and science.
